Reforestation |
 |
 |
 |
| Due to many years of neglect, forest fires and overgrazing
a lot of damage have been done to the land. Now the time has come
to reverse this trend and plant many indigenous plants and improve
the soil. |

A
reforestation programme was started in 1999 and the aim is to control
erosion and once again provide a diverse vegetation cover that will
capture the water from the mists and hold the soils in place.
An irrigation system has been set up and is now providing water for
the newly planted trees. Two big 40,000 liter tanks store water and
serve both as an irrigation supply and as a fire prevention storage.
The topography of the land is such that makes it difficult to use
machinery, so work is mostly by hand. |
